Meet Carmelle Ross!

“Don’t take life too seriously—and remember, it’s not always about you.”

Carmelle Ross is a civil engineer, author, and intentional planner who believes the same principles that create strong foundations in construction can build strong, lasting relationships in life. Her debut book, Lasting Love by Design, draws on a career spent shaping land for thriving communities—and a personal journey shaped by love, loss, and starting again with purpose.

Born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan, Carmelle learned early that backup plans weren’t optional—they were essential. That practical, resilient mindset led her to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University, a path she didn’t walk because she was “naturally smart,” but because she was disciplined, determined, and fueled by faith. Her Christian faith has been the bedrock of her values and continues to guide her personally and professionally.

Her expertise in land development—knowing how to evaluate and prepare a site to avoid costly surprises—is a powerful metaphor she draws on in her book Lasting Love by Design. The same principle applies to relationships: if you do your due diligence, you’re more likely to build something that lasts.

Her book, Lasting Love by Design, is a deeply personal journey that began when her late husband handed her an outline for the book six months before he passed away. At the time, she didn’t see herself as the one to write it. But six months after his passing, she came across that outline again and knew she had to bring his vision to life. It took thirteen years of living, healing, and growing to finally bring the message to print. The book bridges her past and present, honoring her late husband while reflecting on her new marriage, and the lessons she’s carried into her next chapter of life.

Today, Carmelle lives in South Florida, where she continues her work in land development and enjoys the beauty of empty nesting with her second husband. She’s a proud mother to three daughters and three bonus sons, a self-declared wine connoisseur in training, and a devoted fan of horror movies. She brings humor, humility, and depth to every conversation and lives by the mantra: “Don’t take life too seriously—and remember, it’s not always about you.”
